Following that walk in Washington D.C. and the purchase of a book called Yoga for Wimps I have done Yoga every single day without fail.
In addition to that book, I have purchased other books and videos to enhance my practice. I have invested in some really great Yoga music and candles to help set the mood and have also purchased a few yoga supplies (mats, blocks, belts, etc.). However, it's really just the mat and the time that you need. The other items are useful, but not necessary.
For me, Yoga has been a blessing. It's an art that increases your mental focus, your balance, flexibility and strength. I've done yoga in hotel rooms all over the country, in airports while waiting on flights and in the back of conference meeting rooms. It's more than exercise, but it includes exercises that will strengthen and heal many things that happen to our bodies on a day to day basis.
In addition to these items, I have been taking a weekly Yoga class from a wonderful woman named Crystal Crews who owns and operates Blue Heron Healing Arts in Plainfield, Indiana.
Crystal is a gem (pun fully intended). She is a great instructor, and is able to help folks of all abilities to come into their own by way of yoga. She helps you keep in mind the spiritual aspects of the practice, as well as the physical components.
Having access to a weekly class has greatly improved my home yoga practice and is a great way to keep in touch with other Yogis as well as have someone with skill and experience keep an eye my postures to make sure that my down dog doesn't turn into a slumping hound!
